Police release name of teen who died in West Windsor crash
Daniel Haas, an 18-year-old West Windsor resident, died as a result of injuries he sustained as a passenger in a Tesla that left the roadway and struck a tree just before 4 a.m. on August 20.
The crash took place on Lanwin Boulevard in the area of Providence Drive in West Windsor Township.
First responders were sent to the scene at 3:49 a.m. and immediately began to provide first aid to an 18-year-old from West Windsor who was driving the vehicle, and to Haas, who was riding in the front passenger seat.
The car, a 2024 Tesla Model Y, was heading north on Lanwin when it left the road and struck a tree just past the intersection of Providence Drive. A portion of the tree became embedded in the passenger compartment of the Tesla.
Both teens were entrapped inside of the Tesla and EMS workers and firefighters had to extricate them from the vehicle. Stations #43, #44, & #45 worked to extract both teens and to assist them. Robbinsville EMS #40, East Windsor EMS #142, and Capital Health medics also arrived on the scene to help in the rescue efforts.
After the teens were removed from the Tesla, they were both transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton because of their life-threatening injuries. Lanwin Boulevard was closed for about six hours during the investigation.
At about 8:51 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, Haas died. The driver, whose name has not been released, remains in serious condition.
