Garbage truck catches fire behind Princeton Shopping Center

Fire behind the Princeton Shopping Center
Video by Dan Delaney of the truck that caught on fire July 20.

A garbage truck caught on fire just after 2 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Princeton Shopping Center next to Grover Park.

Firefighters were battling the fire on an afternoon when temperatures reached the mid-90s. While firefighters were working to put out the blaze, a large boom could be heard as the truck’s gas tank exploded. Large grey plumes of smoke could be seen from neighborhoods near the shopping center.

Stores at the shopping center were evacuated while firefighters got the fire under control. No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Planet Princeton has reached out to officials for more information.
