Flooding is stranding drivers in several towns in the Mercer County region (last updated 8 p.m. Tuesday)
A flood warning is in effect for Central New Jersey counties through Wednesday morning, August 7, and a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday. A flash flood warning is in effect for portions of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Middlesex counties until 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Severe weather is expected to return at about 9 p.m. Tuesday. Roads will flood again and it will be too dark to see. Stay home if you can.
Many communities were already experiencing severe flooding as of late Tuesday afternoon.
As of 8:30 p.m., Princeton Pike is closed between Interstate 295 and Province Line Road.
Quaker Road is closed in Princeton as of 5:30 p.m. Lawrence-Pennington Rd is closed between Lawrencia Drive and Federal City Road as of 5:45 p.m.
A portion of Route 31 in Pennington is flooded. One reader reported that he was parked in a parking lot waiting for the flood waters to recede.
As of 7:45 p.m., the tunnels at the Princeton Junction Train Station were open again after being closed earlier in the evening due to flooding.
Police in West Windsor have asked residents to shelter in place because the roads are so bad there. Many roads are flooded in West Windsor and police report that vehicles are trapped on flooded roads. Just before 6:30 p.m., police reported that road conditions were improving.
Lightning has also struck several houses in West Windsor. The fire department has been dispatched to those homes.
Police in Plainsboro also report that many roads there are flooded. They are urging residents not to drive.
If you must drive and encounter a flooded road, don’t drive through the flooded roadway. Turn around, don’t drown.

Very crazy weather and started to rain and thunder in Freehold at 3;30 pm and did not stop until 11:30 of mostly heavy rain.
